Introduction

Hamstring muscle of the posterior compartment of the thigh.

Origin

• long head: tuberosity of the ischium
• short head: lower 1/2 of the lateral lip of the linea aspera (posterior femur)

Insertion

head of the fibula

Action

• flexes knee
• rotates the flexed knee laterally

Innervation

• long head: tibial nerve
• short head: common fibular nerve One of the muscles that crosses 2 joints (hip & knee).
