Introduction

One of 4 intrinsic muscles of the 4th layer of plantar muscles.

Origin

sides of the adjacent metatarsal bones

Insertion

• 1st: into medial side of proximal phalanx of 2nd toe
• 2nd: into lateral side of proximal phalanx of 2nd toe
• 3rd: into lateral side of proximal phalanx of 3rd toe
• 4th: into lateral side of proximal phalanx of 4th toe

Action

abducts toes 2-4 from an axis through the 2nd toe

Innervation

lateral plantar nerve
