by 2 heads from the lateral & medial condyles of the femur

Insertion

• with soleus by the calcaneal tendon (Achilles tendon) into the lower 1/2 of the posterior surface of the calcaneus

Action

plantar flexion of foot

Innervation

tibial nerve
