• medial part: bodies of the T3 to C5
• superolateral part: anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3-C5
• bodies of T1-T3

Insertion

• medial part: bodies of C2-C4
• superolateral part: anterior tubercle for the atlas
• anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C5-C6

Action

twists or flexes neck anteriorly
