Introduction

Formed by 2 bellies joined by an intermediate tendon.

Origin

  • inferior belly: upper border of scapula between superior angle & notch

Insertion

hyoid bone

Action

depresses hyoid bone

Innervation

upper cervical spinal nerves via ansa cervicalis
