Introduction
Group of 12 - 20 nodes that lie in the subcutaneous tissue below the inguinal ligament & along the terminal part of the great saphenous vein.
- drains the skin & subcutaneous tissue of the lower abdominal wall, perineum, buttock, external genitalia & lower limb Subdivided into 3 groups:
- Inferior (vertical):
- located inferior to the saphenous opening; receive drainage of the lower limb
- Superolateral (lateral horizontal):
- located lateral to the saphenous opening; receive drainage of lateral buttock & lower anterior abdominal wall
- Superomedial (medial horizontal):
- located medial to the saphenous opening; receive drainage of the perineum & external genitalia
