The mesenencephalon consists of the:
- tectum mesencephali (corpora quadrigemini)
- tegmentum mesencephali
- crus cerebri
- cerebral aqueduct
- periaqueductal gray matter
- nuclei

Evolution
That part of the brain developing from the middle of 3 primary cerebral vesicles in the embryo.
