Function

It gives passage to:

• facial nerve (CN VII)
• vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII)
• labyrinthine artery
• labyrinthine vein

Course

• a canal beginning in the posterior cranial fossa passing laterally through the petrous part of the temporal bone to the fundus where a thin plate of bone separates it from the vestibule.
