Introduction
Somatic sensory function.
Afferents
- located in posterior medulla medial to the cochlear nucleus
- receives sensory input (equilibrium) from ear via the vestibular ganglion
- located in posterolateral medulla lateral to the vestibular nucleus
- receives somatic sensory (hearing) input with cell bodies for primary sensory neurons located in the spiral ganglion
Course
- courses superiorly from the lateral aspect of the rostral medulla to the internal acoustic meatus
