• facial nerve (CN VII)

Innervation

• sensory fibers for taste from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue
  • cell bodies in the geniculate ganglion
• presynaptic parasympathetic fibers
  • cell bodies in the superior salivary ganglion
  • fibers join the chordae tympani to the lingual nerve
