Introduction
A sensory ganglion located in the facial canal at the genu of the canal.
Afferents
The geniculate ganglion contains primary sensory neurons with CN 7 fibers conveying:
- somatic sensory information from the external ear synapsing the spinal nucleus of CN 5
- visceral sensory information from the anterior 2/3 of the tongue (taste) to the nucleus solitarius
