WHO is exploring the release of genetically modified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes for control of Zika virus
- release of sterile male mosquitoes or males with the naturally occurring Wolbachia bacteria
- in both instances, when females mate with affected males, the eggs don't hatch^[3]
