Epidemiology
- normal endogenous flora of the oral cavity
Pathology
- facultative anaerobe
- distinguishing feature is ability to cause abscesses
- infections usually affect the mouth & throat, causing dental abscess, peritonsillar abscess, or sinus abscess
- septic thrombophlebitis of the jugular vein (Lemierre's syndrome)
- bacteremia, leading to lung abscess, brain abscess, liver abscess, kidney abscess, & other abscesses
- endocarditis generally in association with an abnormal heart valve

Management
- Streptococcus constellatus bacteremia mandates a search for an abscess[1]
