Introduction

Puncture of a vein with a hypodermic needle, generally for the purpose of:

  • obtaining blood for diagnostic purposes
  • intravenous access for administration of pharmaceuticals

Pain & stress of venipuncture reduced by breast feeding in newborns.[2]
