Etiology
Pathology
- associated with Kaposi's sarcoma
- HHV-8 is also found in body cavity-based non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in patients with AIDS
- the HHV-8 virus is found frequently in saliva
- in-situ hybridization studies show the virus localized to epithelial cells in the buccal mucosa[2]
- Castleman's disease
- virus latent in B-lymphocytes, endothelial cells
Clinical manifestations
- painless violaceous skin nodules
- nodules in the mouth
Laboratory
- Herpes virus 8 serology
- Herpes virus 8 DNA
- Herpes virus 8 latent nuclear antigen in tissue

- antiretroviral therapy
- treatment of Kaposi's sarcoma
