Introduction

South American form of hantavirus.

Epidemiology

  • On April 1, 2026, cruise ship MV Hondius left Ushuaia Argentina for the west coast of Africa enroute reported persons sickend with Hantavirus, sequenced to be of the Andes strain
    • 3 confirmed cases, 5 suspected cases. 3 persons died, 3 or 4 hospitalized[2][3][4]
    • a flight* from St. Helena to Johannesburg carried a symptomatic passenger[4]

* 4 12-5 hour flight
