Introduction

A layer of cells that surrounds the egg & zona pellucida. The cumulus cells are embedded in a matrix of hyaluronic acid formed prior to ovulation. The sperm protein hyaluronidase PH20 aids sperm in penetrating the layer of cumulus cells by digesting the matrix of hyaluronic acid.
