naratriptan (Amerge)

Introduction

Tradename: Amerge. naratriptan hydrochloride:

Indications

• migraine headache (useful for patients with frequent recurrence)

Contraindications

• severe renal impairment (GFR < 15 mL/min)
• severe hepatic impairment
• hemiplegic or basilar migraine
• within 24 hours of ergot alkaloid

Dosage

• 1-2.5 mg at onset of headache
• may repeat in 4 hours
• max dose 5 mg/24 hours

Tabs: 1 & 2.5 mg.

Pharmacokinetics

• longer acting than other triptans

1/2life = 6 hours
