Introduction
Tradename: Zefazone. 2nd generation cephalosporin.
Dosage
2 g IV every 6-12 hours

- Salmonella species
- Shigella species
- Proteus mirabilis

- Morganella species
- Citrobacter species (+/-)
- Aeromonas species (+/-)
Adverse effects
- bleeding secondary to coagulopathy (in elderly)
Drug interactions
- coadministration with alcohol may produce a disulfiram-like reaction
- cefmetazole may enhance the effect of warfarin
- drug interaction(s) anticonvulsants with anti-bacterial agents
- drug interaction(s) of antibiotics with warfarin
