moricizine (Ethmozine)

Introduction

Tradename: Ethmozine. Class Ib antiarrhythmic agent.

Indications

• ventricular arrhythmias
• not effective in treatment of supraventricular arrhythmias
• not proven effective in preventing recurrence of sustained life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias

Dosage

200-300 mg PO TID

Tabs: 200, 250, 300 mg.

Adverse effects

• proarrhythmic effects (3%)
• gastrointestinal
  • nausea & vomiting
  • diarrhea
• central nervous system
  • tremor
  • mood changes
  • headache
  • vertigo
  • dizziness
  • nystagmus

Drug interactions

• Morizine may decrease levels of theophylline. Hepatic metabolites eliminated by renal route (40%).

• drug interaction(s) of antiarrhythmic agents in combination with diuretics
