Introduction
Tradename: Trecator-SC
Indications
- treatment of tuberculosis & other mycobacterial infections, including Mycobacterium avium complex
- used in conjunction with other anti-tuberculous agents when 1st line therapy has failed or resistance has been demonstrated
Contraindications
severe hepatic impairment
Caution: use with caution in patients taking isoniazid or cycloserine
Dosage
- 500-1000 mg/day divided BID
- children 15-20 mg/kg/day divided BID; max 1000 mg/day
- take with meals
- neurotoxic effects may be relieved by coadministration of pyridoxine 50 mg QD
Tabs: 250 mg. Dose adjustment in renal failure:

- hepatitis, jaundice, peripheral neuritis, psychiatric disorder, postural hypotension, metallic taste

Drug interactions
- cycloserine
- isoniazid
- increased toxicity with rifampin
- drug interaction(s) anticonvulsants with anti-bacterial agents
- drug interaction(s) of antibiotics with warfarin
Test interactions
- decreased serum thyroxine
