Introduction
Tradename: Pyridium.
Indications
- symptomatic relief of dysuria*
- pain, burning, urinary urgency & urinary frequency arising from irritation of the lower urinary tract
- caused by urinary tract infection
- following urological procedures
* does NOT provide antimicrobial coverage
Dosage
Tabs: 100 & 200 mg.
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
- uncommon (< 1%)
- other
- anaphylactoid-like reactions
- will turn urine orange[5]
- will stain clothes & contact lenses
Mechanism of action
- azo dye that exerts a topical analgesic effect on the urinary mucosal tract
