Introduction

Indications

• hypertension
• congestive heart failure*

* found to be beneficial in patients with CHF in clinical trial

Dosage

• start 5 mg PO QD, max 20 mg/day
• CHF: start 1.25 mg QD; max 10 mg QD

Tabs: 5, 10 mg.

Adverse effects

• less likely to cause nightmares than atenolol, metoprolol

• drug adverse effects of beta-adrenergic receptor antagonists
• drug adverse effects of beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonists
• drug adverse effects of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors (RAAS inhibitors)
• drug adverse effects of antihypertensive agents
