Introduction
Sodium stibogluconate. Pentavalent antimonial Sb[V].
Indications
- Leishmaniasis
- available from CDC (404 639-3670)
- 20 mg Sb[V]/kg IM/IV for 20 days cutaneous leishmaniasis & 28 days visceral leishmaniasis
Adverse effects
- myalgia
- arthralgia
- fatigue
- hepatotoxicity
- chemical pancreatitis
- electrocardiographic abnormalities
- increasingly common as treatment progresses
- generally do not limit therapy
- effects are reversible
