Indications

post-partum bleeding

Contraindications

• pregnancy
• induction of labor, uterine inertia
• threatened or spontaneous abortion

Dosage

• 0.2 mg IM/IV/PO QID PRN for 2-7 days
• up to 5 doses IM/IV, then switch to PO
• 48 hours of treatment generally sufficient

Tabs: 0.2 mg.

Injection: 0.2 mg/mL (1 mL)

Adverse effects

• common (> 10%)
  • hypertension, headache, seizures
• less common (1-10%)
  • nausea/vomiting
• uncommon (< 1%)
  • chest pain (temporary), dyspnea, hematuria, thrombophlebitis, water intoxication, hallucinations, leg cramps, dizziness, tinnitus, nasal congestion, diarrhea, diaphoresis, palpitations, taste disturbance
