Introduction
Tradenames: Ethamolin.
Indications
- sclerosing agent used for treatment of bleeding esophageal varices
Dosage
adults:
- 1.5-5 mL/varix
- up to 20 mL total or 0.4 mg/kg
- decrease dosage for patients with hepatic dysfunction
Injection: 5% (2 mL)
Adverse effects
- not common (1-10%)
- uncommon (< 1%)
- injection necrosis, acute renal failure, aspiration, anaphylaxis
