Introduction
A benign, solitary hair follicle tumor.
Pathology
- cells resembling basal cell carcinoma
- areas of epithelial necrosis
- eosinophilic ghost cells
- variable calcification
- foreign body giant cell reaction in fibrous stroma
Genetics
- some cases associated with beta-catenin mutations
Clinical manifestations
- often occurs in childhood
Complications
- rarely, malignant transformation to pilomatrix carcinoma
