Introduction

A domain of about 55 amino acids residues present in thrombospondin 1 & 2, proteins of the complement pathway, & other proteins. Within TSP1 modules, the WSXW & CSVTCG motifs are highly conserved, but not ubiquitous. TSP1s may bind both protein & glycoconjugate ligands.

The TSP1 module has an elongated structure with 2 amphipathic turns & one hydrophilic beta-strand region. The 6 Cys of the 2nd TSP1 module of human thrombospondin 1 are connected in a 1-5, 2-6, 3-4 disulfide-bond pattern. Variable numbers Cys disulfides are found in different modules.
