• 5' untranslated region of delta amino-levulinate mRNA
• 3' untranslated region of transferrin receptor mRNA
• cytoplasmic-membrane overlapping region of APP mRNA (putative)

Function

• presumably inhibitory motif
• binding of IREB1 to the IRE element in ferritin mRNA results in repression of its translation
• binding of IREB1 to the transferrin receptor mRNA inhibits otherwise rapid degradation
