- role in iron cellular uptake

- fetal tissues
- liver, epithelium, umbilical cord, placenta, sweat gland ducts,
- capillary endothelial cells especially in brain
Pathology
- expressed in melanomas
- serum levels are increased in patients with Alzheimer's disease[2]
