Compartment

• cytoplasm, nucleus, nuclear in germ cells
• cytoplasmic in well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma
• nuclear in moderately- & poorly-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma

Expression

• not expressed in normal tissues, except:
  • germ cells in seminiferous tubules
    • strongly expressed in spermatogonia & primary spermatocytes
    • at later stages of maturation, expression gradually decreases & becomes undetectable in mature spermatids
  • Purkinje cells of cerebellum

Pathology

• expressed in various tumors, including:
  • melanoma, lymphoma, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, liver cancer.
• in hepatocellular carcinoma, inverse correlation between tumor differentiation & MAGE-C3 expression
