Function
- voltage-independent K+ channel activated by intracellular Ca+2
- intermediate conductance
- activation is followed by membrane hyperpolarization & Ca+2 influx
- blocked by clotrimazole & charybdotoxin
- insensitive to apamin
- heterotetramer of K+ channel proteins (probable)
- interacts with MTMR6
Structure
- belongs to the K+ channel KCNN family KCa3.1/KCNN4 subfamily
Compartment
membrane
Expression
- widely expressed in nonexcitable tissues
- up-regulated by phorbol myristate acetate & phytohemagglutinin in T-cells
Pharmacology
- inhibited by senicapoc, an investigation agent used in treatment of sickle cell disease
