Function
- heavy subunit of calpactin 1
- Ca+2-regulated membrane-binding protein
- affinity for Ca+2 is greatly enhanced by anionic phospholipids
- binds two Ca+2 with high affinity
- may be involved in heat-stress response
- heterotetramer containing 2 light chains of S100A10/p11 & 2 heavy chains of ANXA2/p36
- interacts with ATP1B1 & DYSF
- phosphorylation of Tyr-24 enhances heat stress-induced translocation to the cell surface
- may cross-link plasma membrane phospholipids with actin & the cytoskeleton & play a role in exocytosis
Structure
- a pair of annexin repeats may form one binding site for Ca+2 & phospholipid
- belongs to the annexin family
- contains 4 annexin repeats
Compartment
- secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix
- basement membrane
- melanosome
- translocated from the cytoplasm to the cell surface through Golgi-independent mechanism
