Introduction
binds to lymphotoxin-alpha.
Function
- binds beta-galactoside
- binds to lymphotoxin-alpha
- physiological function is not known
Structure
- homodimer
- contains 1 galectin domain
Pathology
- smooth muscle cells & macrophages in atherosclerotic lesions express galectin 2 & lymphotoxin-alpha Poymorphism:
- in a Japanese population, a single nucleotide polymorphism in the gene for galectin 2 showed significant association with myocardial infarction[3]
