- stimulates several biological activities related to scarring
- stimulates synthesis of extracellular matrix proteins, including collagen, fibronectin & hyaluronan
- stimulates fibroblast proliferation
- induces chemotaxis of fibroblasts & smooth muscle cells
- enhances wound healing
- role in accelerating epithelization by acting as direct mitogen &/or a motogen for epithelial cells (putative)
- heparin-binding
