Function
- actin-binding protein highly enriched in dendritic spines
- regulates dendritic spine morphogenesis prior to formation of postsynaptic densities
- drebrin-1 recruits PSD-95 to the post-synaptic density.
- forms clusters in dendritic filopodia
- drebrins might play some role in cell migration, extension of neuronal processes & plasticity of dendrites
- binds F-actin
Structure
contains 1 ADF-H domain
Compartment
- cytoplasm, highly enriched in dendritic spines
Alternative splicing
Expression
- brain, neurons
- also found in the heart, placenta, skeletal muscle, kidney & pancreas
Pathology
- a decrease in drebin 1 has been reported in brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease & Down syndrome.
