Introduction
A plasmid created by recombinant technology. Cosmids are circular DNA containing a plasmid origin of replication & a drug-resistance marker, the cohesive end site from bacteriophage lambda & a fragment of DNA for cloning. Cosmids are constructed to allow cloning of DNA fragments up to 40,000 base pairs in length. 1 or more unique restriction sites are necessary to facilitate cloning.
