Function
- inhibits signal transduction by increasing GTPase activity of G-alpha subunits thus increasing the amount of inactive GDP-bound form
- activity on Gz-alpha is inhibited by phosphorylation
- activity on Gz-alpha & Gi-alpha-1 is inhibited by palmitoylation (of G-protein)
- palmitoylated on Cys-2 &/or Cys-12
- phosphorylated by cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase
Structure
contains 1 RGS domain
Pathology
- genetic variation in RGS4 is associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia type 9
