Introduction
A conserved 120 amino acid domain shared by all RGS* proteins. The RGS domain binds to activated (GTP-bound) G-alpha subunits & mediates GTPase activity. RGS domains consist of 3 subdomains either nearly contiguous or dispersed within nonconserved sequences. These 3 subdomains each contact G-alpha.
* Regulators of G-protein signaling (RGS) proteins act as GTPase activating proteins (GAPs) that reduce the signal of receptor- activated (GTPbound) G-alpha.
