Function
- transfers a sulfate to position 3 of non-reducing beta-galactosyl residues in N-glycans & core2-branched O-glycans
- high activity towards gal-beta-1,4-GlcNAc, gal-beta-1,4(fuc-alpha-1,3)GlcNAc
- lower activity towards gal-beta-1,3(fuc-alpha-1,4)GlcNAc
- protein modification; carbohydrate sulfation
- pH dependence: optimum pH is 7.0-8.0
Structure
belongs to the galactose-3-O-sulfotransferase family
Compartment
- Golgi, Golgi stack membrane
- single-pass type 2 membrane protein (probable)
Expression
- highly expressed in thyroid, brain, kidney, heart & spinal cord
