- role in host defense system on mucous membranes
- preferentially cleaves C-terminal side of arginine residues at the P1 position of certain peptides
- inhibited by diisopropyl fluorophosphate, leupeptin, antipain, aprotinin, soybean trypsin inhibitor
- optimum pH of 8.6
