• unphosphorylated form inhibits Ca+2-transporting ATPase of sarcoplasmic reticulum
• binding to cytoplasmic tail of ER Ca+2 ATPase inhibits pump
• phosphorylation by cAMP kinase (PKA) & CaM kinase inhibits inhibition of ER Ca+2 ATPase
• phosphorylated in response to beta-adrenergic stimulation
