• contains many Ser/Thr phosphorylation sites

• predominantly localized in G1 phase in perinucleolar region
• in later phases, detected throughout the nuclear interior, predominantly localized in the nuclear matrix
• in mitosis, present on all chromosomes

Expression

• expression occurs preferentially during late G1 phase, S phase, G2 phase & M phases of the cell cycle
• not detected G0 phase

Pathology

• MIB-1 is the name of an Ig-G1 antibody against Ki67 which works well in formalin fixed tissues, often used to determine proliferation index of tumors
• may help distinguish benign from malignant adrenal cortical tumors
