RNA polymerase 2 p16 kD subunit (RPB4, RNA polymerase 2 subunit D, POLR2D)

Function
- component of the RNA polymerase 2 complex
- POLR2D is part of a subcomplex with POLR2G that binds to a pocket formed by POLR2A, POLR2B & POLR2F at the base of the clamp element. The POLR2D-POLR2G subcomplex seems to lock the clamp via POLR2D in the closed conformation thus preventing double stranded DNA to enter the active site cleft
- the POLR2D-POLR2G subcomplex
- protrudes from the RNA polymerase 2 core complex
- binds single-stranded DNA & RNA
Structure
- belongs to the eukaryotic RPB4 RNA polymerase subunit family
