• dominant-negative VHL, prots of HIFalpha
• interacts via beta domain with the ODD domain of HIF1A, independent of prolyl hydroxylation of HIF1A
• little or no E3 ubiquitin ligase activity,

• lacks alpha domain required for nucleating multiprotein E3 ubiquitin ligase complex

abundantly expressed in placenta
