Function
- binds specifically to oligomers of E-box motifs
- may play important roles during development of the nervous system as well as in other organ systems
- efficient DNA binding requires dimerization with another bHLH protein
- forms homo- or heterooligomers with myogenin, E12 & ITF2 proteins
- interacts with PTF1A (putative)
- phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR
Structure
contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain
Compartment
Expression
- expressed in several tissues & cell types including skeletal muscle, thymus, & a B-cell line
