Indications

• infectious diarrhea due to
  • Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter

Specimen

• rectal swab or fresh, randomly collected stool
• minimum volume: 1 g of stool or 2 rectal swabs
• container:
  • plastic-coated cardboard cup or plastic cup with tight-fitting lid
  • other leak-proof containers are acceptable

Notes

• if Vibrio species are suspected, the laboratory must be notified & appropriate collection & transport methods must be used
