arylsulfatase-E (ARSE)

Function

• may be essential for the correct composition of cartilage & bone matrix during development
• no activity toward steroid sulfates
• inhibited by millimolar concentrations of warfarin

Cofactor:

• binds 1 Ca+2 per subunit (putative)

Kinetic parameters:

• Optimum pH is 7
• Temperature dependence:
  • almost completely inactivated after 10 minutes at 50 degrees C

• belongs to the sulfatase family
• N-glycosylated

Expression

expressed in the pancreas, liver & kidney

Pathology

• defects in ARSE are the cause of X-linked recessive chondrodysplasia punctata 1
