Function
- may be essential for the correct composition of cartilage & bone matrix during development
- no activity toward steroid sulfates
- inhibited by millimolar concentrations of warfarin
- Optimum pH is 7
- Temperature dependence:
- almost completely inactivated after 10 minutes at 50 degrees C

- belongs to the sulfatase family
- N-glycosylated

Expression
expressed in the pancreas, liver & kidney
Pathology
- defects in ARSE are the cause of X-linked recessive chondrodysplasia punctata 1
