Function
- ligand for members of the frizzled family of serpentine receptors
- probable developmental protein
- may be a signaling molecule which affects the development of discrete regions of tissues
- likely to signal over only few cell diameters
- may be involved in normal development or differentiation
Structure
belongs to the Wnt family
Compartment
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- isoform 1 is expressed in adult heart, brain, placenta, lung, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine & colon; in the adult brain, isoform 1 is found mainly in the caudate nucleus, subthalamic nucleus & thalamus
- also detected in fetal brain, lung & kidney
- isoform 2 is expressed in fetal brain, fetal lung, fetal kidney, caudate nucleus, testis & cancer cell lines
Pathology
- may be involved in carcinogenesis
