Introduction
Remnant particle remaining after chylomicron metabolism.
Characteristics
- retains most of the cholesterol esters found in the chylomicron
- contains apolipoproteins:
- size: 30-80 nm
- density: between that of VLDL & IDL
Pharmacokinetics
- rapidly metabolized in liver after entering circulation, generally in < 10 min with catabolism mediated by the apo E receptor (LRP)-mediated endocytosis & lysosomal degradation
- estrogens stimulate chylomicron clearance
More general terms
Additional terms
- apolipoprotein B48 (apoB48)
- apolipoprotein E (APOE)
- cholesterol ester
- low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor related protein (LRP)
